"Research by the Sutton Trust shows that each year there are some 3,000 students from state schools who have the necessary A level grades to attend the UK’s leading universities but who – for a variety of reasons – end up elsewhere", says Dr. Tessa Stone director of the Sutton Trust. Without a doubt many students from state schools do not achieve their potential and the cost of this is not only in terms of their lost opportunities but also the massive underemployment of talent in the economy. G&T Associates recognise that there is a problem right across the system but our particular expertise and mission is to help the gifted and talented cohort within the state sector. As GCSE and A level grades improve there is even more competition for entry into prestigious universities and professional careers. To succeed students need to know what their aptitudes and potential are, what opportunities are available to them and how to achieve a successful transition. Gordon Collins and Rhiannon Morgan have been working as careers advisers since gaining their Diploma in Careers Guidance in 1987. They have worked in a huge range of schools and colleges and know exactly what is needed to progress state students into higher education and professional careers. They are dedicated to giving the gifted and talented students in the state sector the same opportunities that their counterparts have in the independent sector. We have been undertaking careers guidance with students for over 20 years and know how to raise aspirations, show students their aptitudes and help them plan for a successful future. We also know how to get parents/guardians involved and get everyone focussed on how to achieve the potential of the student concerned. We are particularly good at raising aspirations, demystifying the higher education system and supporting parents, as well as students, making them much more comfortable and confident in making decisions. We know what pupils in state schools need in order to achieve their potential and enable them to compete against a very strong independent school sector (N.B 20% of students in independent schools achieve straight grade A at A levels). Because we are a small and specialist agency, our cost base is low and we can offer very high quality services at very competitive rates.
